Fluminense Wins South American Super Cup with Victory over LDU Quito
In the 32nd edition of the tournament organized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Fluminense and LDU Quito faced off in a rematch at the Maracana Stadium. Fluminense, the reigning Libertadores Cup champions, took on LDU Quito, the Sudamericana Cup winners.
After losing the first away match 1-0, Fluminense came back strong in the rematch, defeating LDU Quito 2-0. Jhon Arias scored both goals for Fluminense in the 76th and 90th minutes, the second one coming from a penalty kick.
Former Galatasaray player Felipe Melo also made an appearance for Fluminense in the first half. However, Fluminense was reduced to 10 men after John Kennedy received a red card in the 79th minute.
With this victory, Fluminense secured their first-ever South American Super Cup title and added another trophy to their collection. The team can now proudly display the cup in their museum, marking a historic moment for the Brazilian club.
