Foreign Minister Szijjártó Announces Successful Evacuation Operation
Hungary Successfully Evacuates Citizens from Lebanon with Slovak Assistance
Hungary has successfully concluded an evacuation operation with the help of its Slovak friends, as announced by the minister of foreign affairs and trade, Péter Szijjártó. The details of the operation, which took place in Lebanon, are being disclosed now for security reasons.
In a post on Facebook, Szijjártó revealed that a plane dispatched by Slovakia to Lebanon departed the country with nine Hungarian citizens and a Lebanese family member on board. The plane made a stop in Cyprus before landing in Bratislava, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
Earlier in August, Hungary had conducted a similar operation with its armed forces, bringing several Hungarians back from Lebanon. This time, with the escalating situation in the Middle East, Hungary and Slovakia collaborated to evacuate Hungarian citizens from Lebanon.
Szijjártó emphasized the importance of international cooperation in such operations, stating that Hungary always offers seats on its evacuation flights to neighboring countries and EU member states. The recent evacuation coordinated by Slovakia was supported by Hungary’s diplomatic mission in Beirut, with consuls in Larnaca and Bratislava providing assistance to the evacuees.
Given the heightened risk in the Middle East, Szijjártó advised Hungarian citizens to avoid traveling to the region. The successful evacuation serves as a reminder of the importance of coordinated efforts in ensuring the safety of individuals during emergencies.
