Foreign Students in Kyrgyzstan Transitioned to Online Classes Due to COVID-19 Restrictions
Foreign Students in Kyrgyzstan Moved to Online Classes Temporarily
Bishkek – 15:17, 20 May 2024 – Foreign students in Kyrgyzstan have been temporarily transferred to online classes, announced Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Rasul Abazbek uulu, at a press conference today.
An order has been issued for online classes for a week to ensure that students have the opportunity to stay in their dormitories and other places of residence. This decision comes in light of recent events that have caused concern for the safety of students in the country.
“Together with the rectors of universities, work is underway to ensure the safety of students, including those living in rented apartments, hostels, and other places,” said Rasul Abazbek uulu. He emphasized the importance of learning from these events and improving the conditions for all students in Kyrgyzstan.
Efforts are also being made to familiarize foreign students with the culture of the Kyrgyz Republic and promote their integration with local students. The Ministry of Health reported that 41 victims sought medical help as a result of the recent mass brawl involving foreigners in Bishkek.
The incident, which occurred on May 13 in a hostel and sparked protests, resulted in the detention of four citizens from Egypt. They have since been placed under house arrest, and a criminal case has been initiated under the charge of “Hooliganism” according to the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The government is taking steps to address the safety and well-being of all students in Kyrgyzstan and ensure that incidents like these are prevented in the future. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
