Foreigners detained by SCNS for extorting money from fellow citizens

On August 29, 2024, in Bishkek, the security service officers detained citizens of Bangladesh who were involved in a passport scam. These individuals had taken passports from their fellow countrymen and extorted a large sum of money from them under false pretenses.
According to the press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS), the Bangladeshi citizens had promised their compatriots official permits and job opportunities in exchange for $4,000. However, it was later discovered that this was a scam to extort money from unsuspecting victims.
Following their arrest, the perpetrators were placed in a pretrial detention center as the investigation into the case continues. This incident serves as a reminder to always be cautious and verify the legitimacy of any promises or offers made by individuals claiming to provide services in exchange for money.
