Foreigners Required to Register Fingerprints in Kazakhstan

New Law Requires Fingerprint and Genomic Registration for Foreigners in Kazakhstan
Starting January 1, 2024, the provisions of the Law on Fingerprint and Genomic Registration came into force in Kazakhstan, requiring foreigners and stateless persons over 16 years old to undergo fingerprint registration in certain cases. This new regulation was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
The mandatory fingerprint registration applies to individuals applying for various documents to stay in the country, including permanent residence permits, temporary residence permits, visas, asylum seeker’s identity cards, refugee certificates, and refugee travel documents, among others. Additionally, individuals subject to expulsion or under international readmission treaties ratified by Kazakhstan must also undergo mandatory fingerprint registration.
When undergoing fingerprint registration, individuals must present an identification document. Refusal to undergo mandatory fingerprint registration will result in administrative liability, including administrative expulsion from the republic.
It is essential for foreigners and stateless persons planning to stay in Kazakhstan to comply with the new requirement to avoid facing legal consequences.
