Forest Entry Restricted, Citizens Ignite Barbecue – Breaking News in Turkey
Entry to Istanbul’s forests has been prohibited until October 15 as a precautionary measure to prevent forest fires, the Istanbul Governorship has announced. The decision allows for certain areas such as picnic and recreation areas, nature parks, groves, parks, and eco-tourism areas to remain open for picnics, sports, walking, and other activities. However, outside of these designated areas, all kinds of fires, including barbecues, tube smoking, and hookah, are strictly prohibited.
The measure aims to protect the forests and the environment from potential fire hazards. Forest fires can cause significant damage to ecosystems, wildlife, and property. By restricting access to the forests, authorities hope to minimize the risk of wildfires during this period.
The Belgrad Forest, which is under the responsibility of the 1st Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, is one of the nature parks where entrance remains free. However, even in these areas, barbecues have drawn attention. Some individuals argue that picnickers are not the cause of fires and believe that having a barbecue does not pose a significant threat. For example, Musa Kök, who was having a barbecue in the Belgrad Forest, stated, “The fire is not made by picnickers, it is by certain people. I don’t think a fire will start by lighting a barbecue here.”
Nevertheless, it is crucial for everyone to adhere to the restrictions and follow the instructions provided by the authorities. Forest fires can spread rapidly and endanger lives and natural resources. It is the responsibility of citizens to play their part in preventing such incidents by respecting the prohibitions and protecting the environment.
