Former General Director of Gold Mining Company Detained for Violating Environmental Legislation in Kyrgyzstan
In a recent development, the former general director of the gold mining company V.G.S. LLC has been detained on suspicion of violating the legislation of Kyrgyzstan on specially protected natural areas. The press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported this information.
It has been revealed that officials of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry illegally provided 4.2 hectares of land in Kara-Buura State Nature Park for the transportation, unloading, loading of gold ore, and storage of waste from V.G.S. LLC. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision determined that the state had suffered significant damage as a result of these actions.
The former general director of the company is currently running G.A.M. LLC, which offers consulting services in the mining industry. However, it has been discovered that the company serves as an intermediary between government agencies and mining enterprises to further the interests of the latter by obtaining licenses through bypassing legal requirements.
Investigative and operational measures are underway as part of the criminal case to identify other individuals involved and uncover similar violations by mining companies affiliated with G.A.M. LLC. This incident highlights the importance of upholding environmental regulations and protecting the natural resources of Kyrgyzstan.
