Former Police Chiefs to Stand Trial for Mole and FETO Involvement – Last Minute Turkey News
The trial of four police officers accused of sharing information and documents with fugitive Cevheri Güven, who is associated with the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), is set to begin on February 21 at the Ankara 17th High Criminal Court.
The defendants, identified as police officer Serkan Dinçer, former Ankara Provincial Deputy Police Chief Murat Çelik, former Organized Crime Fighting Branch Director Kerem Gökay Öner, and former Deputy Branch Director Şevket Demircan, are facing charges related to being a member of an armed terrorist organization, committing crimes on behalf of the organization, violating confidentiality, and abusing office.
The court has accepted the indictment and scheduled the first hearing for February 21, 2025.
According to the indictment, it was alleged that one of the defendants operated an online account that made provocative posts against law enforcement agencies and personnel. Further investigation revealed that documents and information shared on the account were identical to those featured on Güven’s YouTube channel.
Additionally, it was reported that sensitive documents related to a criminal investigation were found on the defendants’ electronic devices, suggesting a deliberate effort to share confidential information with unauthorized individuals.
The defendants have been accused of violating privacy orders and sharing classified information with the intention of benefiting the FETO organization. While no evidence of membership within the organization was found, the defendants’ actions indicated a willingness to support the organization’s goals and activities.
The upcoming trial will shed light on the extent of the defendants’ involvement in sharing sensitive information and their alleged connection to FETO.
