Turkish museums and ruins to offer free admission on 18th May, Museums Day

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has announced that all museums and ruins in the country will be open to visitors free of charge on Museums Day, celebrated on 18th May every year. The aim of the day is to protect the world’s cultural heritage and promote museology. This year’s theme is “Museums, Sustainability and Welfare.”

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) globally celebrates Museums Day, which will be held for the 42nd time in Turkey this year. The event will be celebrated with various exhibitions and events throughout the week at museums across the country. In addition, the 18th Museums Day will be observed as the “European Night of Museums,” under the auspices of UNESCO and ICOM, and all museums affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be free of charge until 23.00.

The statement issued by the ministry highlighted that the museums and ruins affiliated with it have seen a significant increase in visitors in recent years. In 2019, they hosted over 35 million visitors, while 30 million 932 thousand 948 visitors were welcomed in 2022.

More information about the activities and events taking place in museums across the country can be found on the websites of relevant governorships.
