Nusret Altan, a well-known nature enthusiast and mountaineer, is making waves by swimming in Lake Van during the cold winter months in an effort to draw attention to environmental issues in the region. Altan, who is known for his nature walks and mountain climbing expeditions, aims to raise awareness about drought and endemic species faced by Lake Van by taking a dip in the icy waters, especially during snowfall.
Every January and February, Altan braves the freezing temperatures of Lake Van, highlighting the need to protect this natural treasure. Additionally, he is urging visitors to the Nemrut Crater Lake in Tatvan to be mindful of their environmental impact and to properly dispose of their waste.
Altan is also advocating for the preservation of the reeds in Tatvan, envisioning the region to become a bird paradise. By promoting responsible tourism and conservation efforts, Altan hopes to safeguard the beauty of Lake Van Basin for future generations to enjoy.
