Gary Oldman Admits He Didn’t Enjoy His Performance in Harry Potter
Renowned actor Gary Oldman, known for his roles in acclaimed films such as “Mank” and “The Darkest Hour,” recently opened up about his dissatisfaction with his portrayal of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series. In a guest appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Oldman candidly admitted that he believes his work in the films was mediocre.
“If I had read the books, I would have portrayed the character differently,” the actor confessed, reflecting on his performance. He also acknowledged that being more knowledgeable about the source material would have allowed him to approach the role in a different manner.
Oldman went on to emphasize the importance of constantly striving for improvement in his craft. “Like anything, if I sat down and watched myself in something and said, ‘God, I’m great,’ it would be a very sad day because you want to make the next thing better,” he explained.
Despite his reservations about his work in the Harry Potter series, Oldman expressed gratitude for the opportunities the franchise provided him. He credited the films for allowing him to balance his professional and personal life, stating, “Thank God for Harry Potter… it meant I could do the least amount of work for the most money and then be home with the kids.”
This year, Oldman reunited with director Christopher Nolan for the film “Oppenheimer,” in which he took on the role of Harry Truman. The movie has been one of the most successful releases of the year, further solidifying Oldman’s status as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
