A Criminal Group Steals Gas Condensate from Foreign Company’s Pipeline
On January 25, 2024, an operative event was conducted in Kashkadarya region by law enforcement agencies, as reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The event led to the arrest of 5 individuals who were part of a criminal group accused of stealing gas condensate from a pipeline belonging to the foreign enterprise “Epsilon Development company” LLC.
The group allegedly punctured the gas condensate pipeline, which crosses the territory of Shirinabad mahalla in Nishan district, and installed a tap to steal 8.9 tons of condensate fuel worth 17.4 million soums. According to the investigation, the group managed to loot a total of 568.5 tons of gas condensate fuel worth 1.1 billion soums.
The Karshi specialized prosecutor’s office has initiated a criminal case under Article 169, Part 4, Paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code, and the 5 individuals have been detained in procedural order. The preliminary investigation is currently underway.
The stolen fuel and the method in which it was obtained have raised concerns about the security and protection of the pipeline infrastructure. The foreign company, as well as local authorities, are likely to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
