Tragedy Strikes as Three Firefighters Lose Their Lives in Liquefied Natural Gas Explosion
A devastating incident took place on January 24 in the Mongolian capital, resulting in the loss of three brave firefighters while they were battling a massive fire caused by a truck carrying 60 tons of liquefied natural gas. The situation quickly escalated, requiring over 600 firefighters in 100 vehicles to extinguish the flames that engulfed several buildings, including a residential structure.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the tragic chain of events began when the truck collided with a small vehicle, triggering an initial explosion. A second blast occurred, tearing apart part of the truck and ultimately claiming the lives of the firefighters at the scene. Additionally, four other individuals traveling on foot and by car lost their lives, while nine people sustained injuries in the aftermath.
The devastating impact of the fire extended beyond the loss of lives, with 36 vehicles and 3 buildings destroyed, and the properties of 228 individuals and 15 businesses damaged. The estimated cost of the damage is reported to be approximately 5.4 billion MNT. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, with the aim of determining the exact cause of the fire and assessing the full extent of the damage.
A special working group has been formed to oversee the investigation, and an expert has been appointed to conduct 62 tests across six different categories. Nearly 60 conclusions have been derived from these tests, shedding light on the sequence of events leading up to the tragic explosion.
