Gender Disparity in Salaries Revealed by TÜİK’s Findings
TÜİK’s new data on women sheds light on various aspects of women’s lives in Turkey in 2023. The statistics reveal important information about women’s population, life expectancy, education, employment, marriage, and more.
As of December 31, 2023, the female population in Turkey was 42 million 638 thousand 306 people, accounting for 49.9 percent of the total population. It was observed that women live longer than men, with a life expectancy of 80.3 years for women and 74.8 years for men. The healthy life expectancy at birth for women was 57.0 years.
In terms of education, the average education period for women was 8.5 years, and 86.7 percent of women aged 25 and over had completed at least one level of education. The data also showed an increase in the proportion of women with higher education degrees over the years.
When it comes to employment, the data revealed that the labor force participation rate of women increased as their education level rose. However, the employment rate of women was still significantly lower than that of men, with only 30.4 percent of women employed in 2022.
The gender wage gap was also highlighted in the data, showing that men earned more than women at all education levels. The statistics further illustrated the representation of women in various sectors such as politics, academia, and research and development.
