General Assembly Sees Rise in Civil Servant and Pensioner Representation

Increase in Civil Servants and Pensioners, Extension of Housing Rent Increase Rate, and Additional Budget to be Discussed in Parliament
The parliament is set to discuss important regulations this week that have a direct impact on millions of people. The proposals passed by the Plan and Budget Committee will be brought to the General Assembly on Tuesday, June 11th for further deliberation.
One of the key highlights of the proposed law is the increase in the minimum salary for civil servants, which will rise to 22 thousand liras. Additionally, civil servants can expect an 8 thousand 77 lira hike as part of the package. This increase aims to improve the financial situation of civil servants.
Another significant change is the 25 percent increase in pension benefits, as outlined in the article added to the proposed law. With this increase, retirees whose root pension is below 7 thousand 500 liras will see their pensions rise to that amount. The widows and orphans of pensioners will also be impacted by this change. If the law is passed in parliament this week, SSK and BAĞ-KUR retirees can expect an increased salary starting this month.
Moreover, the discussion will revolve around the extension of the 25 percent upper limit on the rate of increase in residential rents. This extension seeks to prolong the existing limit until July 1st, 2024. Additionally, a law will be put into effect to ensure that convicts who were granted coronavirus leave until July 31st, 2023, do not have to return to prison.
Regarding budget matters, the Planning and Budget Committee will review an additional budget proposal on Tuesday. The proposal includes an appropriation of 1.1 trillion liras to be added to the 2023 budget. It is expected that the additional budget will be brought to the General Assembly for discussion on Thursday.
Furthermore, a joint group formed by the Felicity and Future Parties under the umbrella of the Felicity Party will convene for their first meeting on Wednesday.
These upcoming discussions and decisions in parliament have significant implications for civil servants, pensioners, renters, and the overall budget. It remains to be seen how these proposals will fare in the General Assembly and the impact they will have on the lives of millions of people.
