German Cyclist Rides for Children Battling Cancer in Kyrgyzstan
German Cyclist to Dedicate Silk Road Race to Children with Cancer in Kyrgyzstan
A participant of the Silk Road cycling race from Germany, Patrick Mayerle, has announced that he will dedicate his upcoming race to children suffering from cancer in Kyrgyzstan. The Pomogat Legko Foundation reported that from August 17-31, 2024, Mayerle will be taking part in the grueling Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgyzstan.
Teaming up with the charity organizations Umai – Hilfe für Kirgistan e.V. from Stuttgart, Germany, and the Pomogat Legko Foundation in Kyrgyzstan, the goal is to raise funds for essential medicines for children battling cancer. This collaboration aims to support those in need and bring awareness to the challenges faced by young patients in the country.
According to Aizada Pertner, a representative of the Umai organization, the Silk Road Mountain Race is renowned as one of the most difficult cycling races in the world. Starting in Bishkek, the race will span various regions before culminating in Cholpon-Ata. Participants will endure a grueling 2,000-kilometer journey without any external assistance over a span of 15 days.
Pertner highlighted Mayerle’s desire to make a difference in Kyrgyzstan by participating in the race and supporting local causes. Through crowdfunding efforts, the team has already raised 1,500 euros towards the goal of providing essential medications for children with cancer in Bishkek and Osh. To sustain this assistance for six months, they aim to raise a total of 7,500 euros, and for a year, the target is 15,000 euros.
Today, Mayerle plans to visit young patients at the National Centre for Maternal and Child Welfare’s Oncology Department as a gesture of solidarity and support for those bravely fighting cancer in Kyrgyzstan. His dedication to the cause is a testament to the power of humanitarian efforts and the impact of individuals coming together to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
