The Importance of English Proficiency for Career Development
A recent study has shown that 97 percent of participants believe that a good level of English proficiency significantly affects career development. According to Akhan Özten, many businesses in Turkey are now conducting international business processes and are selecting employees with this in mind. As a result, English proficiency can offer important opportunities to young professionals. Those who prove their English proficiency with globally valid tests such as TOEFL are seen as one step ahead in the eyes of employers all over the world, not just in the private sector but also in academia.
The research also revealed that approximately 9 out of 10 young people want to go abroad after university, with the majority being engineering students. Among the reasons for wanting to go abroad, “career” was cited as a major factor by one in two university students.
For those considering participating in exchange programs such as Erasmus, which allows students to continue their education at a university abroad and increases job opportunities, Germany was the favorite country.
Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of English proficiency for young professionals, as well as the desire for international career opportunities after completing university. With the increasing globalization of business and education, having a good command of English has become more important than ever.
