Google Play Ceases Monetization of Russian Apps

Google Play to Stop Monetization of Apps from Russia

Google Play has announced that it will no longer allow monetization of apps from Russia. A notice posted on the Habr portal revealed that starting December 26, 2024, the popular game and app store will suspend payments to developers with bank accounts registered in Russia.

Developers with bank accounts located in Russia will no longer receive payments from Google Play, and revenue from sales worldwide will not be accrued. The announcement stated, “Starting December 26, 2024, monetization on Google Play will no longer be possible for you. From that date, we will reject all attempts by users to purchase your paid apps, make in-app purchases, and renew subscriptions.”

Final payments to developers will be accrued on January 15, 2025, after which they will be stopped indefinitely. Google emphasized that this measure is being implemented for an indefinite period.

This decision by Google Play is likely in response to the ongoing international sanctions against Russia. Developers with bank accounts in Russia are advised to make alternative arrangements for monetizing their apps.
