Government Bans Electric Scooter Speeds Exceeding 10 km/h

New Regulations for Individual Vehicle Drivers Introduced for Road Safety

In an effort to enhance road safety, the Cabinet of Ministers has made changes and additions to existing government decisions pertaining to individual vehicle drivers. Citizens driving electric scooters, electric skateboards, segways, unicycles, and other similar vehicles are now required to adhere to specific regulations.

One of the key provisions stipulates that individual vehicle drivers must follow traffic rules and drive on sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths at a speed not exceeding 10 km per hour. In the absence of designated paths, drivers are permitted to travel at a speed not exceeding 20 km per hour on the roadside.

Additionally, new license plates are being introduced for ambulances, electric motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters to improve identification and regulation of these vehicles. Prohibitive measures have also been implemented, such as restricting individuals under the age of 14 from driving, prohibiting driving on pedestrian crossings, transporting passengers, using mobile phones, and other measures aimed at enhancing safety.

Furthermore, new road signs have been introduced to indicate the prohibition of scooters and mopeds (3.5.1), as well as to regulate the control of individual vehicles (3.34). These measures are part of ongoing efforts to create a safer environment for all road users and to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
