Government Buys Electricity from Citizens for 4.8 Billion UZS Since Beginning of Year

In July, 3.75 thousand individuals in Uzbekistan sold “green” electricity for a total of 1.39 billion UZS, according to recent reports from the Ministry of Energy. This is part of a larger trend, as since the beginning of the year, almost 5 thousand citizens have been selling electricity generated by solar panels to the state.

The Tax Committee has revealed that over the course of seven months, a total of 4,986 individuals have sold 4.81 million kWh of “green” electricity to the unified power grid. With a fixed price of 1 kW/h at 1,000 UZS, these citizens were paid a combined total of 4.81 billion UZS from the state budget.

The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that in July alone, 3.75 thousand individuals sold excess electricity they generated, amounting to 1.39 billion UZS in earnings. This financial support is distributed through the Soliq application to the recipient’s bank card by the 25th day of the month following the reporting period. Furthermore, this money will not be considered as taxable income for the recipients.

Overall, the growing number of citizens participating in the sale of “green” electricity showcases a positive trend towards renewable energy adoption in Uzbekistan. This not only benefits individual sellers financially, but also contributes to the larger goal of sustainable energy development in the country.
