Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Recognizes Kazakhstan’s Impact on Global Interreligious Dialogue
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, has praised Kazakhstan for its significant role in advancing global interreligious dialogue. During a meeting with Maulen Ashimbayev, head of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religion, Sheikh El-Tayeb expressed his willingness to continue collaborating with Kazakhstan, particularly in the areas of theological education and scientific research.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference in Manama, Bahrain, where Ashimbayev engaged in bilateral meetings with several prominent leaders, including Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board, Sheikh ul-Islam Allahşükür Paşazade, and King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain.
In his address at the conference, Ashimbayev highlighted the global challenges of internal divisions, geopolitical instability, and the rise of extremism. He emphasized the importance of promoting dialogue between cultures and religions to address these issues. Ashimbayev also noted the alignment between Bahrain’s initiatives and Kazakhstan’s efforts to promote peace, tolerance, and dialogue.
Kazakhstan has been consistent in promoting mutual understanding, unity, and interfaith dialogue both domestically and internationally. Astana will host the eighth Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in September, under the theme “Dialogue of Religions: Synergy for the Future.” The congress, which has been uniting religious leaders for over two decades, will also feature a Forum for Young Religious Leaders.
The Kazakh delegation at the conference also engaged in discussions with other influential leaders, including the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of Bahrain and senior representatives from the UAE, the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Kazakhstan’s commitment to promoting dialogue and understanding among different faiths and cultures continues to be recognized and appreciated on the global stage.
