Grandfather in Müslüme Yağal case receives sentence: Latest Turkey News
Tragic Incident in Mersin
A heartbreaking incident occurred in the rural area of Yanışlı District in Mersin’s Gülnar district, where a 3-year-old girl named Müslüme went missing on November 10, 2021. The family reported her disappearance to the authorities, leading to an investigation that tragically ended with the discovery of the child’s lifeless body on November 19, 2021.
The grandfather of the child, H. Yağal, was detained and accused of “intentional murder”, “aggravated sexual abuse of a child”, and “deprivation of liberty for sexual purposes”. The grandmother, A. Yağal, and the mother, S., were also implicated in the case, with prison sentences requested for their involvement in “favoring the criminal”.
An additional indictment was filed against H. Yağal, alleging “qualified sexual assault” against his daughter-in-law, S. Yağal, and “sexual abuse of a child” against A. Yağal, who was identified as the result of this attack. This new development was added to the ongoing case.
During the trial, the public prosecutor requested the acquittal of the grandmother and brother, as well as the punishment of the mother for her role in the tragic events that unfolded.
