Greek Opposition Criticizes Government for Skipping Ukraine Summit in London
The main opposition parties in Greece have accused the government’s foreign policy of being insufficient and ineffective. Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), Radical Left Alliance (Syrıza), and the new Left have all raised concerns about Greece’s lack of participation in important negotiations on Europe’s security architecture.
In a joint statement, Pasok’s Foreign Policy Spokesman Dimitris Mancos and Nikola Papaoglu, the Secretary of European Affairs, expressed worry over Greece’s absence from key summits, such as the one in Paris. They emphasized the need for Greece to play a more active role on the international stage, especially in light of Türkiye’s participation in the summit.
Syrıza’s foreign policy department also criticized the government’s strategy, stating that it has failed to protect the country’s interests. They highlighted Greece’s decision to send heavy weapons to Ukraine as a move that has not provided any diplomatic advantage and has instead exposed the country to regional risks.
Furthermore, the new left party criticized Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis, accusing him of isolating Greece both domestically and internationally. They argued that the government’s close alignment with the United States has not yielded any strategic benefits for the country.
Overall, these opposition parties believe that Greece’s absence from key summits and its perceived isolation on the international stage are clear indicators of the government’s ineffectiveness in foreign policy.
