Green Market Showcase in Bishkek

The organic farm products fair and exhibition in Bishkek is attracting visitors with its wide variety of natural goods. From fresh fruits and vegetables to nuts, honey, medicinal herbs, and more, attendees are enjoying tastings and purchases of their favorite products.

One standout at the fair is Andre Wolkorte, a Dutch native who has been living in Kyrgyzstan for many years. He is showcasing two types of cheese made from local milk using German and Swiss technology. Starting his business in Karakol, Andre now operates a small factory near Sokuluk, supplying his high-quality cheese to Bishkek retail chains.

Despite the higher price tag of 1,400 soms per kilo, customers appreciate the natural and chemical-free production process that results in a top-notch product. Nearby, home-smoked meat delicacies are also available for purchase, with the manufacturer, Pavel Larin, emphasizing the pure meat and spice ingredients in his products.

While organic agriculture in Kyrgyzstan is still developing, with only 5% of agricultural land dedicated to organic farming, initiatives are underway to support its growth. First Deputy Minister Zhanybek Kerimaliev highlighted the government’s efforts to promote organic farming, including preferential loans, equipment leases, and assistance with sales to enter foreign markets.

The fair, which runs until September 22nd, provides a platform for organic producers to showcase their goods and promote sustainable agriculture. In conjunction with the fair, the Organic Expo – Central Asia regional forum aims to foster the advancement of organic and regenerative agriculture in Central Asia, promoting biodiversity preservation and sustainable development in the agricultural sector.
