Greenland Prime Minister Egede Gives Green Light for Meeting with Trump
Greenland Officials Respond to Trump’s Rhetoric
During a joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Greenland Premier Mute Egede responded to recent statements made by former United States President Donald Trump regarding Greenland.
Egede expressed that Greenland belongs to the Greenlandic people and emphasized that they do not want to be controlled by either Denmark or the United States, but rather want to be recognized as Greenlanders.
While Egede mentioned that he had not yet met with Trump, he expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with him to find common ground and work towards solutions.
Trump’s recent statements regarding Greenland, in which he claimed it was necessary for the US to have ownership and control of the island, caused backlash from Greenland officials. Egede reaffirmed that Greenland is not for sale and that they will continue their struggle for freedom.
Furthermore, Trump’s suggestion that he could potentially use troops to control the Panama Canal and Greenland raised concerns among Panamanian officials. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino emphasized that the sovereignty of the Panama Canal is non-negotiable and reiterated that Panama retains full control over the canal.
In response, Panamanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Martinez-Acha underscored the importance of the Panama Canal as a symbol of his country’s struggle for sovereignty, stating that it is an irreversible conquest.
Overall, the statements made by both Greenland and Panamanian officials reflect a firm stance against any attempts to undermine their sovereignty and control over their territories.
