GZPTs to Remain in Service for Additional 20 Years with Upgrades

FNSS, the main contractor of the Enhanced Armored Personnel Carrier (GZPT) vehicles in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, will be modernizing the vehicles to extend their lifespan and upgrade their capabilities. The project aims to equip the 52 GZPTs, which have been in service since the early 2000s with new technology subsystems that will enable them to operate with higher performance for at least another 20 years.
The GZPT-T1s are equipped with 305 horsepower and amphibious capability and will receive a complete overhaul, including the engine and transmission, to ensure their mobility for many years. The modernization efforts will also incorporate an air conditioning system, new generation vehicle electronics, unmanned double-gun turret, fire detection and positioning navigation systems tailored to user needs.
FNSS will be delivering the modernized GZPTs to the Turkish Armed Forces between 2024 and 2025. Currently, there are roughly 550 GZPTs in the TAF inventory, and it’s expected that the 52 vehicles to be modernized will continue to serve the military for years to come.
Thanks to this project, the GZPT-T1s will be equipped with next-generation hardware, making them modern and effective tools against current threats. The modernization project takes into account the changing threat environment, technological developments, and knowledge gained in modernization projects such as the ZMA modernization to ensure that the GZPTs will continue to contribute to the combat power of the Land Forces Command.
In conclusion, the GZPT modernization project is an exciting development for the Turkish Armed Forces, ensuring the country’s military has advanced and modern tools to combat current and future threats.
