Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Visit Egypt for Talks with Egyptian Counterpart
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Egypt following an invitation from Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdulati. The visit, scheduled for today and tomorrow, will focus on discussions about bilateral political, economic, cultural relations, and current regional developments.
Badr Abdulati, who recently assumed office as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Overseas Egyptians, will host Minister Fidan for their first official meeting. The discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.
The visit comes at a time when Turkey-Egypt relations are experiencing a positive momentum, particularly following President Erdoğan’s historic visit to Egypt in February after a 12-year gap. The signing of a joint declaration during the visit highlighted the commitment to convene the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and strengthen ties between the two countries.
During the upcoming meetings, Minister Fidan and Abdulati will also focus on the preparations for the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, which is expected to take place during President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s upcoming visit to Turkey. The discussions will include the signing of nearly 20 agreements across various sectors, with a target to increase the trade volume from the current 10 billion dollars to 15 billion dollars.
Additionally, the discussions will cover the humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Palestinian issue, and escalating tensions in the region. There will be a comprehensive evaluation of the developments in Libya, Sudan, and Somalia, with Minister Fidan planning to visit El Arish and the Rafah border gate.
As part of the aid efforts, the Egyptian Red Crescent will inspect the humanitarian aid sent from Turkey to Gaza at the logistics center. The talks between Minister Fidan and his Egyptian counterpart are expected to pave the way for strengthened cooperation and mutual understanding between Turkey and Egypt.
