Half of Residential and Utility Building Roofs to Receive Solar Panels, Announces Minister of Energy

Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov has revealed plans for the launch of 3,000 small hydropower plants (HPPs) in the next two years, along with a program aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in buildings by installing solar panels and solar collectors on rooftops.

During an interview with the O’zbekiston 24 TV channel, Minister Mirzamakhmudov discussed the directive to develop projects for the establishment of new “green” power capacities totaling 1 GW, in addition to the previously planned 3.5 GW. The upcoming commissioning of around 3,000 small HPPs was also emphasized in his statements.

“The instructions have been given to develop a program for the installation of solar panels and solar collectors on at least 50% of the rooftop area of residential and utility buildings,” stated the Minister.

He further highlighted that the President has mandated the implementation of a program to improve energy efficiency in buildings, promote the conservation and rational use of electricity, natural gas, and thermal energy. The program includes initiatives for the modernization of energy-inefficient enterprises and the development of new energy capacities.

These measures aim to contribute to the country’s energy sustainability and environmental goals, as well as enhance the overall efficiency and reliability of the energy sector in Uzbekistan.
