Half of Us: Transforming Risky Structures in Istanbul
The “Half of Us” campaign, launched in 2023 under the coordination of the Presidency of Urban Transformation, is continuing to transform risky structures in Istanbul. The Ministry announced that the campaign covers all districts of Istanbul and aims to encourage citizens to renew their homes for their safety.
In a statement on social media, Sevim Yazıcı, a resident of Bahçelievler for 40 years, shared her experience with the campaign. She emphasized the importance of earthquake safety and the need to renovate old buildings. Yazıcı highlighted the financial support provided by the Ministry, including a grant of 700 thousand pounds, a loan of 700 thousand pounds, and transport assistance of 100 thousand pounds.
Through the “Half of Us” campaign, citizens who wish to renew their homes in Istanbul can take advantage of these financial incentives. The loan repayment starts two years after obtaining the building license and can be spread over a 10-year term. TOKI and Emlak Konut GYO are involved in the construction process for on-site transformations.
The support provided by the campaign aims to make urban transformation more accessible and affordable for residents. With the help of government grants and loans, more citizens are encouraged to participate in the renovation of their homes for a safer and more resilient future.
