Hamas Leader Haniyeh Addresses Negotiations with Israel and Palestinian Politics
In a recent televised speech, Hamas leader Haniyeh discussed the ongoing negotiations with Israel and Hamas’ stance on Palestinian domestic politics.
Haniyeh emphasized Hamas’ positive and responsible approach to the negotiations, stating that they are committed to reaching an agreement that will end the war in Gaza, return displaced individuals to their homes, and secure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. He also stressed the importance of international guarantees to ensure Israel’s compliance with these principles.
However, Haniyeh noted that an agreement has not yet been reached due to Israel’s reluctance to provide guarantees about adhering to the terms. Despite this setback, Hamas remains open to further negotiations and is willing to consider any formula that includes the key principles outlined.
Addressing Israel’s tactics in Gaza, Haniyeh accused Israel of waging a psychological war against the Palestinian people by attempting to sow chaos and division. He asserted that despite Israel’s efforts, the Palestinian people have remained resilient in the face of continued oppression and violence.
Turning to Palestinian domestic politics, Haniyeh expressed Hamas’ commitment to uniting the Palestinian people and rebuilding political structures on a solid foundation. He outlined a three-stage plan that includes the reconstruction of national authority within the Palestine Liberation Organization, the formation of a national reconciliation government, and the development of a political program for the Palestinian people.
In his closing remarks, Haniyeh called on Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the diaspora to support the Al-Aqsa Flood initiative, aimed at safeguarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other holy sites. He also extended gratitude to the resistance movements in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq, as well as to supporters in the Arab and Islamic world who have shown solidarity with Gaza.
Haniyeh’s address underscores Hamas’ commitment to achieving a just and lasting resolution to the conflict with Israel, as well as to promoting unity and resilience among the Palestinian people.
