Hamas Thanks Belgium and Spain for Denying Gaza Massacre
Hamas Applauds Spanish and Belgian Prime Ministers’ Support for Palestinians
Hamas has praised the recent statements made by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo during their visits to Israel, Palestine and Egypt. In a written statement, Hamas expressed their appreciation for the “clear and courageous stances” of the Belgian Prime Minister, who rejected the destruction of Gaza and the killing of civilians, and the Spanish Prime Minister, who condemned the indiscriminate killings by the occupying state against civilians in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has called on all countries to support the right of Palestinians to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The statements made by the Spanish and Belgian Prime Ministers at a joint press conference at the Rafah Border Gate yesterday have caused a reaction on the Israeli side. Belgian Prime Minister De Croo urged Israel to act in accordance with international humanitarian law and stated, “The killing of civilians must stop now. Too many people have died. The destruction of Gaza is unacceptable. We cannot accept the destruction of a society.” Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez echoed these sentiments by saying, “It is time for the international community and the European Union to recognize the Palestinian state. We must do this together with the EU. However, if the EU does not recognize the Palestinian state, Spain will make its own decision.”
In response to these statements, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Eli Cohen summoned the ambassadors of Spain and Belgium to convey a message of condemnation.
It is evident that the statements made by the Spanish and Belgian leaders have sparked a contentious discussion surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Hamas leveraging the support from these European countries to bolster their cause for Palestinian self-determination and statehood.
