Head of Umid Avto Arrested for Alleged Massive Fraud

Abdumannop Abdurakhmonov, the head of “Umid Avto Companies” LLC and several affiliated auto-leasing firms, has been arrested on charges of large-scale fraud. The Interior Ministry’s Investigation Department confirmed his arrest to Kun.uz.

Abdurakhmonov and other executives are facing charges under multiple articles of the Criminal Code, including fraud and illegal activities involving the attraction of funds or other property. The criminal case was filed on September 3, 2024, and has been ongoing at the Chilanzar District Court since November.

Over 200 individuals have been identified as victims in the case, claiming financial losses after not receiving their vehicles or refunds despite agreements with the company. It was revealed that Abdurakhmonov also led several related companies, including “Orient Avto,” “Business Orient Auto,” “Orient Auto Hamkor,” “Umid Auto Xizmati,” and “Orient Auto Toshkent.”

Authorities have separated parts of the case involving Abdurakhmonov and his associates to ensure thorough legal proceedings and restitution for victims. Efforts to recover material losses are currently underway.

Earlier this year, Abdurakhmonov anonymously commented on a Kun.uz investigation, citing the collapse of several leasing companies as the reason for delays in vehicle delivery. Many clients have expressed dissatisfaction over unfulfilled contracts, with some unable to recover their payments or receive their vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing under the Tashkent City Police Department’s Investigative Directorate, with authorities committed to ensuring a lawful resolution and holding all parties involved accountable.
