Health Official Arrested for $40,000 Bribe in Medical Supply Scam
The State Security Service in Uzbekistan has been cracking down on corruption, with recent arrests targeting officials involved in illicit activities.
In a recent case, an official from the Tashkent Regional Health Department was caught taking a $40,000 advance payment for the illegal sale of medical supplies. The total deal, worth $57,880, involved document forgery and led to the official’s arrest. Additionally, the chief engineer of an electricity supply department and the deputy director of a school were also apprehended in separate corruption-related cases.
The operation in the Tashkent region was a joint effort between the State Security Service and the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office. Criminal cases have been initiated under specific articles of the Criminal Code, and preventive detention measures have been imposed.
In another case in the Jizzakh region, the chief engineer of an electricity supply department and a controller were caught accepting bribes for installing a transformer and connecting an electric vehicle charging station. A criminal case has been initiated against them, and investigative actions are ongoing.
Furthermore, in Jizzakh city, a deputy director of a school was detained for demanding bribes in exchange for providing test questions and answers for national certification exams. A criminal case has been initiated against him as well.
These actions by the State Security Service demonstrate the government’s commitment to combating corruption and holding accountable those involved in illegal activities. Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests may follow as the crackdown continues.
