Heavy Fine Imposed on Unlicensed Peacock Breeders – Latest News from Turkey

Unauthorized Peacock Breeding Operation Busted in City Center

A recent operation by the Provincial Police Department Haydi Police and Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch Directorate teams has uncovered an illegal peacock breeding operation in the city center. The farm, owned by Fatih Y., was found to be breeding peacocks without the necessary permission.

During the search of the farm, authorities seized 15 peacock chicks. The farm owner, Fatih Y., was fined 8,326 Turkish lira for violating the “Hunting and Wild Animals Protection Law.” The baby peacocks were confiscated with the intention of releasing them back into their natural habitat.

The seized peacocks were taken to the DKMP Branch Wild Animal Emergency First Response Center for care and treatment. This action is in line with the efforts to protect wildlife and enforce laws aimed at preserving the natural habitat of animals.

Authorities are reminding the public that breeding and keeping wild animals without permission is not only illegal but also harmful to the animals and their natural ecosystem. Enforcing wildlife protection laws is crucial in maintaining the delicate balance of our environment and ensuring the well-being of all species.
