High Road Fatality Rate in Kyrgyzstan: 110 Killed in Three Months
At least 110 people have been killed in traffic accidents in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of 2025, according to the press secretary of the Main Traffic Safety Department, Baigazy Aitikul uulu. In the past three months, more than 1,300 road accidents have been recorded, resulting in about 2,000 people sustaining various injuries. This marks an increase in road accidents compared to the same period last year.
Baigazy Aitikul uulu stated that 91 percent of accidents are caused by driver error. The most common violations include speeding, driving in the opposite lane, failing to maintain a safe distance, disobeying overtaking rules, making dangerous maneuvers, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Additionally, 38 percent of road accidents involve pedestrians. To address these alarming statistics, the government plans to introduce on-the-spot traffic rules testing for drivers who violate traffic regulations starting from September 1. This initiative comes as a directive from President Sadyr Japarov, as announced by the president’s press secretary, Askat Alagozov.
It is clear that efforts need to be made to improve road safety in Kyrgyzstan and reduce the number of accidents and fatalities. It is essential for drivers to adhere to traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
