Hollywood Screenwriters’ Strike Disrupts Production of “Batman 2”
Production of “The Batman 2” Delayed Due to Writers’ Strike
Fans of the 2021 hit movie “The Batman” will have to wait a bit longer for the sequel, as production has been delayed due to the ongoing writers’ strike. The strike, led by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), began on May 2 and has resulted in delays for various film and television projects.
“The Batman: Part II” was the latest project affected by the strike, as the Cinema and Television Producers Association (AMPTP) did not reach an agreement with the screenwriters on issues such as fair wages and better working conditions. The sequel, which was set to begin filming in London in November 2021, is now scheduled to start production in March 2024.
Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, who wrote the script for the film, are actively involved in the strike, which is not surprising given their stance on the issue. While the news of the postponement may disappoint fans eagerly awaiting the movie, the delay is not expected to affect the release date, which has been announced as October 3, 2025.
“The Batman 2” is not the only Batman project affected by the strike. The shooting of the spin-off series “The Penguin,” based on the character played by Colin Farrell, has also been halted since the second week of May. Production was originally set to end in August, but it is unclear when filming will resume under these conditions.
“The Batman 2” is set to continue from where the events of the first movie ended, with Gotham nearly completely submerged. Colin Farrell will reprise his role as Penguin, while Zoe Kravitz will return as Catwoman. The status of Barry Keoghan’s Joker, who appeared in a small scene in the first movie, is still unknown.
As the strike continues, it remains to be seen how many more film and television projects will be affected. Stay tuned for updates on “The Batman: Part II” and other productions impacted by the writers’ strike.
