Houthis Warn of Retaliation for US Attacks on Yemen

The Houthi rebel group in Yemen has issued a strong warning to the United States, stating that any attack on their country will not go unanswered. Speaking to the Houthi’s “Al Masirah” television channel, a Houthi spokesperson declared that the response to any US attack would be much greater than the operation carried out on January 9.

The Houthi spokesperson also accused the USA and the UK of trying to involve other countries in the conflict with the Yemeni people and called on Asian and European countries not to obey the words of the USA.

This statement comes after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the US and the UK had shot down 18 UAVs and 3 missiles launched into the Red Sea by the Houthis in Yemen.

Following the recent actions of the Houthis in Yemen against commercial ships in the Red Sea, many shipping companies decided to stop their voyages in the area. This has raised concerns about the impact on global trade, as the Red Sea and the Suez Canal are major shipping routes for approximately 12 percent of global trade.

In response to the attacks by the Houthi forces, the Pentagon announced that they were negotiating to establish an international “Maritime Task Force” against the attacks and later established a multinational mission called “Operation Welfare Guardian”.

The attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the successive decisions taken by shipping companies are affecting the global economy and have raised concerns about a new “supply chain crisis” beginning. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and what actions will be taken in response to the Houthi threats.
