Hungarian culture minister seeks closer ties with Transylvania’s cultural and educational institutions

Hungarian Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó recently visited Szekler Land and Transylvania to discuss ways to improve cooperation between the Hungarian government and institutions involved in culture, education, and family affairs. During his two-day visit, Hankó met with officials from Harghita County and Miercurea Ciuc, as well as Romanian Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Brown Dancer.

On the second day of his visit, Hankó met with leaders of the Sapientia – Hungarian University of Transylvania in Sfantu Gheorghe and visited the location for a planned new university campus. They discussed the university’s goal of becoming one of the top ten universities in Romania, with support from the Hungarian government.

Additionally, Hankó held talks with the Mayor of Sfantu Gheorghe and heads of local institutions. He also met with theatre directors from Sfantu Gheorghe and Targu Secuiesc to discuss ways to enhance activities involving children, especially since 2025 has been designated as a year for children in the county.

The discussions during Hankó’s visit aim to strengthen cooperation and support between the Hungarian government and cultural, educational, and family institutions in the region. With a focus on improving opportunities and resources for education and cultural activities, the partnership between Hungary and Transylvania looks to enhance the quality of life for residents in the area.
