Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó to Lead EU Trade Discussion
European Union member states are set to discuss trade issues with the United States and China in Luxembourg on Monday, as the bloc’s competitiveness has suffered due to misguided policies from Brussels. According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, Brussels has made economic issues unnecessarily political, putting European companies at a disadvantage.
Szijjártó pointed out that when tariffs were imposed on China’s electric car industry, European car manufacturers voiced their objections. Despite this, the European Commission failed to establish proper customs cooperation with the United States. The minister emphasized that the solution was simple: reducing tariffs on the car industry, which is vital for both continents, would have benefited everyone involved.
The upcoming Foreign Affairs Council meeting will address these trade issues, with hopes of finding solutions that will benefit European companies and improve competitiveness within the bloc. Szijjártó’s statement serves as a reminder of the importance of effective trade policies in fostering economic growth and cooperation between countries.
