Hungarian Government to Support Reconstruction of Miskolctapolca Cave Spa, Says Economy Minister
Márton Nagy, the national economy minister, recently met with the elected mayor of Miskolc to discuss the devastating fire that occurred at the Miskolctapolca cave spa. The government has pledged to provide support for the reconstruction of this important tourist destination in north-eastern Hungary.
During the meeting, Nagy emphasized the impact of the spa’s closure on both tourism revenue and the livelihoods of local families. The mayor, József Tóth-Szántai, shared that efforts were being made to retain all staff members and redirect visitors to alternative baths in the city.
The Miskolctapolca cave spa, known for its natural caves and leafy surroundings, is a unique attraction in Europe and a significant draw for Hungarian tourism. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the spa welcomed nearly 300,000 visitors annually, with 147,000 visitors in the first seven months of this year alone.
The government’s commitment to supporting the reconstruction of the Miskolctapolca cave spa comes as a beacon of hope for the local community and the tourism industry. Together, officials aim to restore this beloved destination to its former glory and once again welcome visitors from near and far.
