Hungarian Medical Device Manufacturer Invests HUF 28 Billion in Western Hungary
SCHOTT Hungary Kft., a pharmaceutical packaging products manufacturer, recently inaugurated its new production hall in Lukácsháza, western Hungary, with a substantial investment of HUF 28 billion (EUR 76 million). This development, supported by the Hungarian government with over HUF 3.3 billion (EUR 9 million), is set to create 120 new jobs in the region.
During the inauguration ceremony, Krisztina Varju, Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, highlighted the importance of the health industry in today’s world, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic. She emphasized the need for Hungary to become self-sufficient in producing essential medical devices for defense purposes, underlining the country’s future security.
SCHOTT Hungary Kft. has expanded its capacity with the addition of the new production line, focusing on manufacturing prefillable sterile glass syringes. Andreas Reisse, CEO of SCHOTT Pharma, mentioned that these syringes are in high demand in the healthcare sector due to their quality and reliability in storing various drugs, from vaccines to biologics.
With the establishment of the new plant in Lukácsháza, Frank Heinricht, CEO of SCHOTT AG, highlighted that the production capacity has doubled compared to their Swiss facility. Balázs Vizi, Managing Director of SCHOTT Hungary Kft., reflected on the company’s growth since its inception in Lukácsháza 30 years ago, noting the significant increase in employment from 39 employees to 700.
The SCHOTT Group, with a legacy of 130 years in special glass production, operates in 35 countries worldwide with a workforce of 15,400 employees. SCHOTT Pharma, as a subsidiary established in 2022, focuses on providing pharmaceutical companies with a range of glass containment solutions. The Hungarian site in Lukácsháza plays a vital role in supplying these products to the global industry.
The inauguration of the new production hall marks a significant milestone for SCHOTT Hungary Kft. and reinforces Hungary’s position in the pharmaceutical industry. With the continued support of the government and the company’s commitment to innovation, the region is set to become a key player in medical device manufacturing on a global scale.
