Hungarian Ministry remains in constant contact with citizens trapped in Gaza Strip
Efforts Underway to Bring Hungarian Citizens Stranded in Gaza Strip to Safety
The Hungarian foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, has announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively working to ensure the safety of 15 Hungarian citizens who are currently stranded in the Gaza Strip. Speaking at a press conference in Luxembourg on Monday, Szijjártó provided updates on the situation and stressed the importance of international cooperation in the evacuation process.
Among those stranded in Gaza are parents and children, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While efforts are being made to evacuate all individuals who wish to leave, the focus remains on bringing the 15 Hungarians back to safety. Szijjártó revealed that these individuals had encountered difficulties during their attempt to leave Gaza via the Rafah border crossing towards Egypt.
It was reported that they had successfully passed through two checkpoints but were turned back for security reasons before reaching the final checkpoint. The foreign minister disclosed that he had been in contact with his Egyptian counterpart, who granted permission for the stranded Hungarians to enter Egypt. However, logistical challenges prevented their progress, with Szijjártó assuring the public that his comments would not further imperil their situation since the incident had occurred more than ten days ago.
The Hungarian government has been actively involved in addressing the situation in Gaza. Recently, the ruling party, Fidesz, presented a declaration against Hamas and illegal migration. This statement underscores Hungary’s commitment to addressing the conflict and its impact on the affected Hungarian citizens. Furthermore, the Council of Arab Ambassadors to Hungary convened an urgent meeting in Budapest to discuss the ongoing issues in Gaza.
As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to work towards the safe return of the 15 stranded Hungarian citizens, international cooperation remains crucial in navigating the challenges and complexities of the evacuation process. The Hungarian government’s dedication to resolving this situation demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens in times of crisis.
