Hungarian opposition party Mi Hazánk demands social media regulation reform

Opposition party Mi Hazánk is calling for changes to the way social media is regulated in Hungary. The party’s leader, László Toroczkai, announced on Monday that they want regulations to ensure that politicians have the same freedom of expression rights as everyone else.

During a press conference, Toroczkai stated that Mi Hazánk also wants to prevent social media platforms from banning elected officials and punishing journalists. He highlighted the recent ban imposed by Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, on himself and those who mentioned his name frequently.

Toroczkai expressed concern over the undemocratic nature of this ban, stating that it allows a global corporation to have influence over elections. He warned that if this situation is not rectified, the party would challenge the results of the upcoming general election at every available platform.

The proposed changes by Mi Hazánk have sparked discussions about the balance between freedom of expression and regulation on social media platforms. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether these proposed changes will be implemented in Hungary.
