Hungarian Politician Warns of EU Summit Targeting Hungary’s Sovereignty in ‘Head-On Attack’
Hungary’s sovereignty came under attack at the recent summit of EU leaders, according to state secretary Zoltán Kovács. The government had planned to discuss the EU presidency program and a new competitiveness pact, but instead found themselves facing criticism over tax policy.
Since 2010, Hungary has maintained that economic problems should not be shouldered by the people alone, but by those who caused them. Kovács also dismissed the victory plan unveiled by the Ukrainian president as a “communications trick,” calling for a ceasefire and peace talks to end the ongoing war with Russia.
At the summit, Kovács noted a divide within the EU regarding the conflict, with Hungary and some other parties supporting peace while others continued to endorse a militaristic approach. He criticized the lack of a clear plan from Europe and emphasized the need for a reevaluation of the EU’s Migration and Asylum Pact.
Overall, Hungary’s government remains committed to protecting its sovereignty and interests in the face of external pressure and interference from Brussels. The ongoing challenges in the EU highlight the need for unity and cooperation in addressing pressing issues such as migration and international conflicts.
