Hungarian Universities Rank Highly in Global Rankings
BME Among the Best Universities in Global Rankings
The largest publisher of rankings has recently released the complex global rankings in higher education. Among the universities in Hungary, BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) has emerged as one of the best in all three rankings – ARWU, QS, and THE.
BME is the only Hungarian university that is equally included in these international higher education rankings. According to the university’s official website, bme.hu, not only has BME maintained its position in the world rankings published in 2023 compared to previous years, but it has also moved up 100 places in the QS ranking.
In order to understand the rankings better, colour codes have been provided. The green colour indicates universities that have moved up from the previous year or have been included in the rankings. Conversely, the red colour represents universities that have moved down, while white signifies universities that have maintained their rank. The grey colour indicates universities that are not ranked among the best or have been removed from the rankings.
It is interesting to note that BME’s position in the QS ranking is not included as it specializes in one discipline. Nevertheless, BME has made substantial progress in other rankings.
Each ranking methodology takes into account various factors. For instance, ARWU considers indicators such as the percentage of alumni or staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, publication performance of staff, percentage of papers published in prestigious journals like Nature and Science, number of highly cited researchers, and the per capita academic performance of the institution.
QS ranking determines the rank based on factors like academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty-student ratio, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international research network, employment outcomes, and sustainability indicator.
On the other hand, the THE rankings use indicators such as teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry engagement.
BME’s achievement in these rankings highlights the university’s academic excellence and international recognition. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the faculty, staff, and students of BME.
