Hungary and DRC to Launch Comprehensive Cooperation Programme: PM Orbán
Hungary and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have strengthened their ties with a historic visit by DRC President Tshisekedi to Hungary. Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán welcomed the visit, calling it “historic” as it marks the first visit of a DRC president to Hungary.
Orbán emphasized the significance of Africa in the global landscape, highlighting the continent’s expected population growth in the next 20 years. He stressed the importance of providing education, jobs, and healthcare to the growing population of Africa, citing it as an unprecedented challenge.
The leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for Africa’s development, focusing on three pillars: economy, infrastructure development, and education. Hungary proposed a flagship investment in road and bridge construction, linking the DRC with Zambia.
Furthermore, Hungary, known for its significant battery production capacity, discussed potential trilateral cooperation with the DRC, a major supplier of raw materials for batteries.
Agreements on modernizing agriculture, water management, and support for students from the DRC were also highlighted during the visit. Orbán praised the DRC’s role as a stabilizing force in the region and expressed Hungary’s cooperation and support for its nomination to the UN Security Council.
President Tshisekedi emphasized the mutual dedication to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with Hungary, noting the untapped potential for growth. The leaders discussed key areas for partnership and brought together ministers to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Tshisekedi described the visit as a “day of historic importance,” being the first president from Congo to visit Hungary, especially during Hungary’s rotating EU presidency. The visit signifies a new chapter in the relationship between Hungary and the DRC, with both countries committed to expanding cooperation and exchange.
Overall, the visit marked a significant step towards deeper collaboration and partnership between Hungary and the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighting the shared commitment to mutual development and progress.
