Hungary and Guinea-Bissau Join Forces to Combat International Drug Trafficking
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade recently announced that Hungary is collaborating with Guinea-Bissau to combat international drug trafficking, stating that the African country’s strict stance is a great help for Europe as a whole.
During a joint press conference with his Guinea-Bissau counterpart, it was emphasized that Africa’s significance is continuously growing in the current era of global challenges. With the continent’s population expected to increase by 950 million in the next 25 years, there is a pressing need for a comprehensive development strategy.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of developing a Europe-Africa cooperation scheme to avoid potential humanitarian catastrophes and migration pressures. Cooperation between the two countries will also extend to combating terrorism, which poses an unprecedented threat in Africa, as well as international drug trafficking.
Guinea-Bissau’s tough stance on drug trafficking, being an important route for traffickers, has been commended by Hungary. By disrupting these routes, less drugs are able to reach Europe, ultimately reducing the harm caused to individuals and communities.
In addition to security measures, Hungary will also provide assistance in agriculture, food industry, and water management using advanced Hungarian technology. An agreement has been reached to allow 20 students from Guinea-Bissau to study on scholarships at Hungarian universities each year.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently met with the President of Guinea-Bissau during the president’s first official visit to Hungary. Discussions centered around the importance of European security starting in Africa and Hungary’s commitment to supporting the stability and development of the continent.
Overall, the collaboration between Hungary and Guinea-Bissau signifies a strong partnership in addressing critical issues such as drug trafficking and terrorism, while also fostering mutual cooperation in various sectors for the benefit of both countries.
