Hungary Experiences 17°C Temperature Divide Due to Wild Weather

Weather Disparities in Hungary: Eastern Regions Experience Summer Temperatures While the West Stays Chilly

HungaroMet Plc. announced on Saturday that Friday’s weather showcased a striking contrast in temperatures across Hungary, with an almost 17 degrees Celsius difference between the eastern and western parts of the country.

According to a Facebook post by HungaroMet, western Hungary endured temperatures reminiscent of March, while the eastern regions basked in conditions more typical of June. Most areas were far from seasonal averages; notably, the Transdanubian region experienced cooler weather, in stark contrast to the warmth prevalent in the east.

An infographic shared by HungaroMet further emphasized this disparity, demonstrating that western Hungary was 8–9 degrees Celsius colder than is usual for this time of year, while eastern Hungary registered temperatures approximately 4–5 degrees warmer.

The report spotlighted the extreme variation between two locales: Szentgotthárd in Vas County, which faced overcast conditions and persistent rain, recorded a maximum temperature of only 10.4°C. In striking contrast, the sunnier town of Körösszakál in Hajdú-Bihar County saw temperatures surge to 26.9°C, highlighting the dramatic 17°C difference between the two regions.

Despite the sunnier skies in eastern Hungary, HungaroMet reported that scattered showers accompanied by lightning and thunder were also prevalent. In Kisköre, located in Heves County, an impressive 30.7 millimeters of rain fell within just 24 hours.
