Hungary to Establish Embassy in Laos as Fourth EU Member State
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó recently made a significant diplomatic move by opening a Hungarian embassy in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. This marks Hungary as the fourth European Union member country to establish an embassy in the country.
The opening event was highlighted by Szijjártó emphasizing the longstanding diplomatic relations between Hungary and Laos, which were elevated to a level of strategic partnership five years ago. Following Laos’ embassy in Budapest, Hungary reciprocated by inaugurating its own embassy in Laos.
In his address, Szijjártó underscored the successful political and economic cooperation between the two countries, citing mutual respect and dialogue as key components. Despite the geographical distance, the shared struggle for freedom has further strengthened the bond between the nations.
Hungarian companies have invested approximately $200 million in Laos in recent years, focusing on agriculture, water management, and public administration development. The significant growth in bilateral trade this year further illustrates the fruitful collaboration between Hungary and Laos.
The establishment of the Hungarian embassy in Vientiane signifies a milestone in the deepening relationship between the two nations, paving the way for enhanced cooperation and mutual benefits.
