Hungary to Establish Special Offices Abroad

Hungary to Open Special Offices for Hungarian Diaspora Seeking Settlement
Hungary is taking steps to facilitate the resettlement of members of the Hungarian diaspora with the opening of special offices, according to Speaker of Parliament László Kövér. In an interview with business website azuzlet.hu, Kövér stated that it is important for Hungarians living abroad to feel a sense of belonging and know that they always have a home in Hungary. These new offices will be integrated with the existing government windows, functioning as one-stop shops for all public administration related to resettlement in Hungary.
Kövér emphasized Hungary’s commitment to the unification of the Hungarian nation, mentioning the close collaboration with Hungarian diaspora organizations and their involvement in the decision-making process through the Hungarian Diaspora Council. The government’s successful program supporting ethnic Hungarian businesses across the Carpathian Basin was praised by Kövér, noting that the neighboring countries are now recognizing the positive impact on the local economy.
While the strategic goal remains the unification of the Hungarian nation, Kövér clarified that current efforts prioritize the preservation of existing achievements and the smooth operation of the institutional system in ethnic Hungarian communities. Despite the challenging economic situation caused by sanctions related to the war in Ukraine, the Hungarian government has continued to support its programs benefiting Hungarians abroad. In fact, there are plans to increase support in certain areas. Kövér highlighted the accomplishments of economic development programs, with over 60,000 businesses receiving subsidies and employing a predominantly Hungarian workforce.
In a separate event in western Hungary, Kövér addressed the crowd by stating that Hungarians have abandoned any illusions about Europe. However, he emphasized that Hungary remains committed to European ideals. Celebrating the anniversary of a chapel’s consecration, Kövér linked Europe to “the eternal heavenly ideal” of Jesus Christ, envisioning a Europe that provides freedom, security, prosperity, and fairness to all. Kover mentioned the past attempts by communism to undermine this ideal of Europe and expressed the wish for an independent and just Hungarian state that serves and protects the Hungarian nation, contributing to the growth and prosperity of the Carpathian Basin.
As Hungary opens special offices to aid the settlement of the Hungarian diaspora, these steps reflect the government’s dedication to fostering a sense of belonging and providing support for Hungarians around the world. Moreover, Hungary’s commitment to the unification of the Hungarian nation and its determination to protect European ideals reaffirm its role in shaping a prosperous future for its citizens.
